Top 8 TentBox Camping Essentials to Keep in Your Car

There’s nothing quite like the freedom of hitting the road with your TentBox mounted and a weekend of adventure ahead. But whether you’re heading deep into the wilderness or just to a quiet campsite, you should always have a few essential things with you. That’s where having the right TentBox camping essentials packed and ready in your car makes all the difference.

Since I’ve got my TentBox, I’ve been more eager to explore Scotland, and I’ve got my camping essentials already packed. Now, I have the flexibility and freedom to go whenever I want to and choose any scenic destination as my view for the night.

So far, I’m very pleased that I own a TentBox. If you’re on the fence about getting one, check out my pros and cons of owning a TentBox by clicking here. Spoiler alert: I absolutely love it!

Here’s your ultimate checklist of essential items to keep in your car for a smooth and safe roof tent camping experience.

1. Camping chairs and a table

If you want to be as comfortable as possible once you get to your camping spot, I’d recommend getting camping chairs and a camping table. These are foldable and don’t take up too much space in your car. I got my camping chairs from Halfords. They were pretty random purchases, but they were on discount.

Otherwise, most shops have them. I’ve got my folding table from Amazon. It’s a Portable Foldable Table for Camping, which is lightweight and features a handle for easy carrying. I love how these two items barely take up any space inside the boot, and I leave them there, as I never know when I might need them.

2. Compact Camping Stove

Portable Camping Stove

If you plan to go camping for more than a day, you will need a camping stove. There are a variety of options out there, so you can be picky. I opted for the Portable Camping Stove with Cary Case and 4 Butane Gas. I also appreciate its compact design, and it comes in a case, making it easy to transport.

The setup is pretty easy; you open the case, put the butane gas on the side, then turn on the stove, and voilà, you can now cook. I’ve got no bad reviews for this camping gear. It does what it’s supposed to do. You can control the flame; you can cook your food, then close the case, and be on your way.

3. Camping cookware set

I’ve bought the cutest camping cookware set from Amazon. I was looking for something cheap and compact, and I found this Camping Cookware set. It’s a steal considering the essentials it includes: a kettle, a pot, a frying pan, a foldable fork, a spoon, a knife, and two plates, and two cups, all stored efficiently and taking up minimal space.

The only drawback I found with this set is the size of the plates, which are a bit small for a hearty meal. However, I’ve solved this issue by purchasing two separate normal-size plates to complement the set. This way, I have everything I need for a satisfying meal, neatly packed in a mesh bag.

4. Car Fridge Freezer

I believe the car fridge freezer is one of the best purchases I’ve made for camping trips. I’ve got the Alpicool X40 40L Car Fridge Freezer, and it’s pretty huge. It’s a versatile appliance that’s perfect for both camping and long road trips, as you can easily plug it into your car. I’d recommend buying this size only if your car boot is large; otherwise, opt for the smaller version, such as the 30L one.

It comes with both DC and AC cords, suitable for both outdoor and indoor use. We’ve tested this in the house for about a week to see how it works, and I’ve got to say I’m impressed.

5. Inflatable Mattress, Pillows, Sleeping bags

My TentBox setup, complete with two pillows, an inflatable mattress, and two sleeping bags, is all about comfort. While the TentBox’s built-in mattress is a bit rough, I’ve found the Double Self Inflating Camping Mat to do the trick. It provides a level of comfort that’s hard to beat, and it’s compact enough to be easily stored in a bag once you need to get driving.

The following essentials include two regular pillows and two sleeping bags, from Decathlon, for below-zero temperatures for those cold Scottish nights. For the summer season, I might switch to a regular blanket for a lighter feel.

6. Camping Lights

You need various camping lights for inside and outside the tent if you don’t plan to stay inside once the night comes. I have a similar light to the Camping Lantern Battery-Operated Portable LED. It’s not just for inside the tent, you can use it to illuminate your entire campsite, especially if you like to stay outside as much as possible.

I’ve also got some fairy lights inside the tent, which keeps the tent lit enough to see inside while also giving you that dreamy vibe. I’d also recommend any Head Torch you can find. It’s convenient if you go wild camping and need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.

7. Insect Repellent

Camping Insect Repellent

This one goes without saying. Any bug repellent will do while you are camping. You can pick them up at any major supermarket, pharmacy, specialized camping shop, or even on Amazon. I’ve personally tested plenty of insect repellents, but none quite live up to their names. Those persistent mosquitoes still found a way to bite us.

I’ve heard a mix of opinions about Mosquito repellent bracelets, but I haven’t had the chance to try them out myself. At this point, I’m open to any insect repellent that can keep those pesky bugs at bay. It’s all about finding what works for you.

8. Folding Step Stool

Camping Folding Step Stool

For all TentBoxers out there, this Folding Step Stool is handy and quite a necessity. It makes setting up the TentBox easier. Instead of opening the back doors and getting on your car to reach that ladder, use the folding step stool.
There are other uses for this tiny chair as well. You can use it as a small table or as an extra chair if somebody needs it.

You can even use it in your house to reach high places in the kitchen. It’s quite cheap, sturdy, portable and convenient.

Every TentBox adventure is a chance to disconnect from chaos and reconnect with nature. With these TentBox camping essentials in your car, you can have a smooth camping experience. And don’t be afraid to experiment, only through mistakes can we learn what other things we need on trips.
